This is the Tai-Kadai comparative database, compiled by Ilya Peiros. It is linked on a lower level to subordinate databases for Proto-Zhuang-Tai and Proto-Kam-Sui, and on a higher level to the (highly preliminary) database for Proto-Austric.
The database puts together the data from many former works on general Tai-Kadai (Kradai) etymology (primary sources are indicated in the References field) along with some new comparisons by I. Peiros. The reconstructed forms are given in accordance with I. Peiros' current views on Tai-Kadai comparative phonology, but in many cases, reconstructions are not adduced at all, because not all the phonetic correspondences between the various subbranches of the family are sufficiently clear at the moment. Nevertheless, the database even in its present form may be used as an important source of Tai-Kadai comparanda.
Some technical edits for the database were performed by George Starostin (unification of links and tags, data sorting, etc.).
The database consists of the following fields:
1. Proto-Tai-Kadai: the protoform for the entire family, in most cases, following Peiros 1998. Just as in the subordinate Zhuang-Tai and Kam-Sui databases, some of the entries should be judged not as true Proto-Tai-Kadai roots, but rather as areal borrowings from Chinese; in this case, the "Proto" field is occupied by the corresponding Chinese character and its reconstruction for Old Chinese (OC) or Middle Chinese (MC) (OC and MC reconstructions are given according to Sergei Starostin's system).
2. Meaning: the general meaning(s) of the reconstructed (or borrowed) stem.
3. Austric etymology: link to the higher level Austric database where available.
4. Proto-Zhuang-Tai: reflexation in that language, linked to the subordinate Zhuang-Tai database.
5. Ong Be: reflexation in the Ong Be language.
6. Proto-Kam-Sui: reflexation in that language, linked to the subordinate Kam-Sui database.
7-8. Lakkia, Biao: reflexation in Lakkia and Biao languages.
9. Proto-Li: reflexation in the reconstructed ancestral language to present day Li dialects. The reconstruction normally follows Peiros 1998. A Proto-Li database actually exists, but is not present on the site (for now) because it is still in its initial stages.
10. Li (Baoding): reflexation in the Baoding dialect of Li.
11. Notes: additional comments and considerations, including external comparisons with Austro-Asiatic and Austronesian languages and extra references to Old and Middle Chinese words if there is some suspicion of potential borrowing from that source.
