Proto-Taa : *si
Meaning : we (excl.)
Bushman etymology : Bushman etymology
Masarwa : si
|Nu//en : si
Notes : In !Xóõ cf. maybe -sî in ī-sî 'we'. According to Traill, !Xóõ does not distinguish between the inclusive and exclusive. So the form īsî may be a "contraction" of both (?).
References : Bleek 168; Traill 196.

Number : 937
Proto-Bushman : *sV
Meaning : marker of dual => we (excl.)
Proto-Ju : *sa
Bushman > Ju : Bushman > Ju
Proto-Taa : *si
Bushman > Taa : Bushman > Taa
Proto-!Wi : *si~*sa
Bushman > !Wi : Bushman > !Wi
Notes : This morpheme functions as the 1st person pl. exclusive pronoun in most SK languages except for !Xóõ. Since external evidence shows that the NK opposition of *m vs. *e is more archaic, the use of *sV in that function in SK is probably innovative. It is therefore reasonable to compare it with NK *sa 'they two' (with the meaning shift 'they two' => 'me and him two' in SK). Whether this morpheme is related to Khoekhoe pronominal prefixes *sa- (excl.) or *si- (incl.) has yet to be established.
