Protoform: *miƛ̣:VrV
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 peach, peach-tree 2 fruit stone
Avar: miƛ̣:ír 1
Akhvakh: miƛ̣:ara 2
Comments: Av. paradigm B or C (gen. moƛ̣:ró-l). Av. > Akhv. miƛ̣:ir 'peach' (thus there exists an etymological doublet - miƛ̣:ir and miƛ̣:ara - in Akhv.).

Proto-North Caucasian: *moƛ̣_ōrV
Meaning: a k. of foliage tree
Proto-Avaro-Andian: *miƛ̣:VrV
Proto-Tsezian: *ʔɔrƛVmV
Proto-Lezghian: *moƛ̣:or
Proto-West Caucasian: *mǝĹa
Notes: An interesting root, both phonetically (note the peculiar metathesis in PTs) and semantically (note the intricate semantic developments in PL; cf. also an interesting development "peach" > "fruit stone" - not vice versa - in Akhv.). It is hard to establish the precise meaning in PNC: the only obvious fact is that the root denoted some kind of a foliage tree, which was often used for construction purposes (cf. the meanings in Tsezian and Lezghian languages) and probably resembled a peach-tree (cf. the meaning in Av.).

See Abdokov 1983, 109 (Akhv. : Kab.; Chech. lag, also cited by the author, has no relation to the present root).

Lezghian etymology :

Proto-Lezghian: *moƛ̣:or
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 birch 2 poles for planking ceiling 3 wooden pipe
Lezghian: muḳur 3
Tabasaran: muk:ur 3
Agul: muk:ur 2
Archi: moƛ̣:or 1
Comment: The precise meaning in Lezg. and Tab. is "a wooden pipe for draining urine from the cradle". 3d class in Arch.

The root originally must have meant some foliage tree (not "birch" - because the meaning "birch" in Arch. is an innovation, after the word superseded the original PL *merχIʷ "birch" q.v.), which was used for making planking poles and certain details of the cradle. Later most languages started using the root only in these derived meanings (note also in Archi: moƛ̣:or "birch", but already "pole for planking ceiling" in a compound χ:at-moƛ̣:or "ceiling", lit. "cross-beams"+"planking poles").

Meaning: elm

Comments: Considering the EC parallels (with the meaning 'fruit stone, seed') it seems possible to compare also Kab. kʷǝ-mǝLa 'seed inside a fruit stone, inside (of a fruit)'.
