Protoform: *χ:inḳV
Meaning: dumpling (khinkal)
Avar: χ:inḳ
Chadakolob: χenḳ
Akhvakh: χ:ĩḳi
Chamalal: χ:inč̣
Tindi: χ:inḳ́a
Karata: χ:inḳa
Botlikh: χ:inḳi
Bagvalal: χ:inč̣a (Tlis.)
Comments: Av. paradigm B (χ:inḳí-l, χ:inḳá-l, Chad. χinḳí-l, χanḳá-l/χenḳá-l). The Avar word (with the typical Av. plural ending -al) was borrowed by many other Caucasian languages: cf. Gunz. χanḳal, Ag., Tsakh., Kryz. χinḳal, Bud. ħinḳal, Ud. χenq:al, Khin. χɨnḳal, Chech., Ing. χingal, Ad. χǝnč̣́ǝL, Kab. χanč̣aL, Abaz. χǝnḳ́al, Georg. χinḳali. Some Tsezian languages have borrowed also the singular form: Bezht. (Tlad.) χinḳ ( < Av.), Inkh. χinḳe ( < Tind.). Darg. (Ak. χinḳi etc.) and Lak. (χ:unḳ) forms are also probably borrowed from Avar (or Lezghian) sources.

Proto-North Caucasian: *χɨ̄nḳ_ī
Meaning: dumpling (khinkal)
Notes: Reconstructed for the PEC level. In PA we should expect *χ:inḳ:V with a tense -ḳ:-, but there occurred a usual dissimilation in tenseness.

Lak root: hawk:u-ri

Comments: Cf. also Khosr. hawk:uri id. The Proto-Lak. form must have been *hIamk:uri, as seen from the Arch. loanword haInk:ur(i) id.

Lezghian etymology :

Proto-Lezghian: *χɨnḳ
Meaning: dumpling (khinkal)
Lezghian: χinḳ
Tabasaran: χinḳ
Agul: χinḳ (Bursh.)
Rutul: χinḳ-ar
Tsakhur: χinḳ-ar
Archi: qonḳ
Comment: 3d class in Rut., but 4th class in Arch. and Tsakh. Besides the Archi form with q- there is a number of other dialectal forms with a uvular affricate: Ag. q̇ʷaḳi, Rut. qinḳij-bɨr, Tsakh. q̇ɨnḳ-al, which is all rather strange (all external parallels point to a PEC fricative).
