North Caucasian etymology :

Proto-North Caucasian: *q̇HŏcV
Meaning: kid, hornless goat
Notes: Reconstructed for the PEC level. The PL root must belong here, but with a very specific metathesis (of friction): *χ:Iac̣ < **q̇Ias (which would be the normally expected PL form).

Dargwa etymology :

Proto-Dargwa: *q̇Iaca
Meaning: he-goat
Akusha: q̇Iaca
Chiragh: q̇aca
Comments: Cf. also Ur., Tsud. q̇Iaca etc. A probable Darg. loanword is Lak. q̇aIca (Khosr. q̇Iaca) 'he-goat' (if the Lak. word were genuine, we would rather expect an -u- vowel).

Lezghian etymology :
Search within this database
Proto-Lezghian: *χ:Iac̣
Meaning: young goat (less than 2 y. old)
Lezghian: ʁec̣
Kryz: ħäč̣
Comment: Cf. also Lezg. Nüt. ʕac̣, Khl. ʕäc̣ id. 3d class in Kryz. Kryz. has an irregular hushing consonant (a contamination with ħäč̣ 'star' ?). The word is not attested in Budukh (where it would have given *ʕäč̣), but it is probable that an early Shakhdagh (Budukh) form like *ʁIäč̣ (before the change *χ:I > *ʁI > ʕ) was borrowed in Khin. ʁäč̣ 'young goat'.
