Material: Lat. arinca `Getreideart, olyra' (`Galliarum propria' Plin. n. h. 18, 81; fremdes, vermutlich gall. Wort, trotz Niedermann und 30 nicht echt lat.), gr. ἄρακος `Hülsenfrucht, die unter den Linsen als Unkraut wächst', ἄρακοι ὄσπριόν τι. τὸ δε αὐτὸ καὶ λάθυρον Hes.

    Wegen des Bedeutungsunterschiedes ganz fragliche Gleichung; keinen Einwand bietet freilich der nicht ausreichende Anklang von ἄρακος an ὄροβος ἐρέβινθος. Nichtverwandt trotz Fick II4 16, 17 sind gr. ἄρτος `Brot' (dunkler Herkunft, s. Boisacq 84), mir. arbar `Getreide' (s. *ar- `pflugen'), arān `Brot'.
