Proto-Lak: t:urš
Proto-Dargwa: *darš:
Proto-Lezghian: *waIlš:
Proto-West Caucasian: *š́ʷV
Notes: A widely spread common NC root. In PL and PAand. the root has a class prefix *w- (in PAand. it has replaced the original r-: we would expect in PA *rišo- as a regular reflex of the structure *HRVCV̆); we should stress that in PD and Lak. initial d- and t:- are not class prefixes, but regular protheses in this phonetic structure.

Meaning: hundred

Chamalal: behan-na
Tindi: behan-da
Karata: bešan-(da)
Botlikh: bešunu-da
Bagvalal: bešani-da
Godoberi: bešenu-da
Comments: Cf. also Cham. Gig. bešan-da, Kar. Tok. bexan, Bagv. Tlond. bešen. The Avar form nus < *bVns < *bišVnV- (cf. Andian forms). An old Andian loanword is PTsKh *bešon (Tsez., Gin. bišon, Khvarsh., Inkh. bešon).

[Gunz., Bezht. č̣iṭ 'hundred' is a curious case. It is obviously the result of folk-etymological analysis of Avar nus 'hundred' as 'knife' (in Avar there exists a homonymous nus 'knife' - of course, quite different etymologically). Since the Gunzib/Bezhta word for 'knife' is č̣iṭ, it obtained the additional meaning 'hundred' under Avar influence.]
