North Caucasian etymology :

Proto-North Caucasian: *mŏrq_wV̆
Meaning: stripe, line
Notes: Reconstructed for the PEC level. From Avar the word had been borrowed into some Tsezian languages: cf. Inkh., Bezht. muq 'row, stripe'. The Lak. word fits well phonetically, but is somewhat far semantically: we should probably think of a development "stripe" > "thick thread" > "thread of high quality".

Proto-Nakh: *maʁu
Meaning: 1 line 2 line, row
Chechen: moʁa 2

Comments: Initial *mɦ- also possible. In Chech. the word has two obl. stems: maʁara- 'row' (cf. Ing. muʁaro) and moʁana- 'line'; the latter is obviously secondary.
