Tsezian etymology :

Proto-Tsezian: *=ɨ̃ƛ- / *ƛV-
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 to sleep 2 dream
Tsezi: moƛu 2
Ginukh: moƛu 2
Khvarshi: ƛe-s- 1, muƛu 2
Inkhokvari: moƛu 2
Bezhta: maƛo 2
Gunzib: =ɨ̃ƛ- 1, mɔƛu 2
Comments: The original verbal root is preserved only in Khvarsh. ( within a former compound with a reduction of the initial vowel) and in Gunz. Much wider spread is the deverbative *mɔƛu A 'dream' (PTsKh *moƛu, PGB *mɔƛu).

North Caucasian etymology :

Proto-North Caucasian: *=HVwƛ̣_Ān
Meaning: to sleep
Proto-Nakh: *nɦāṗ
Proto-Avaro-Andian: *ƛ̣:in-
Proto-Tsezian: *=ɨ̃ƛ- / *ƛV-
Proto-Lak: maḳ
Proto-Dargwa: *muɣer
Proto-Lezghian: *näwƛ̣
Proto-West Caucasian: *ƛ:ʷA
Notes: The verbal stem as such is reflected only in Av.-And.-Tsezian and WC languages. In most EC languages much more widely spread is the nominal derivate *nhewƛ̣_ŭ 'sleep' (a rather unique case of *n-prefix; perhaps it is actually *mhewƛ̣_ŭ with early dissimilation?), with either long or short first vowel (long *ē is reflected in PN, short *e - in other languages). Note a unique reflex *-wƛ̣- > *-ṗ- in PN, and the irregular development of *ƛ̣ in a tense word > *ƛ̣ in PL. The latter phenomenon is explained obviously by the influence of another NC root, *ɦemƛ̣V 'dream' q.v.
