Lezghian etymology :

Proto-Lezghian: *q:aq:
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 back 2 burden, load
Tabasaran: ʁaʁ 2
Agul: ʕaʕ 2 (Bursh.)
Archi: qoq 1
Comment: Cf. also Tab. Düb. q:aq:a 'burden', Arch. qaqa-n id. Arch. qoq reflects PL *q:oq: (probably an original oblique base *q:oq:V- with Ablaut). Cf. also the derivate adjective in Tab. and Ag.: Tab. ʁaʁi, Ag. Bursh. ʁeʁe-r, Burk. q:eq:e-f, Tp. q:iq:e-f, Fit. q:iq:i-t 'heavy'. The original meaning was 'back' > 'what is born on back, burden'.

Proto-North Caucasian: *q̇ŏgV
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: burden; back
Proto-Tsezian: *q̇ɔg
Proto-Lak: q:aq-la
Proto-Dargwa: *q:aq:
Proto-Lezghian: *q:aq:
Proto-Khinalug: q̇aʁa
Notes: Reconstructed for the PEC level. In the East Dagestan area there occurred a double assimilation (*q̇ŏgV > *q̇ŏGV > *GŏGV); the Tsezian languages obviously preserve the more archaic structure.

It is possible that both Khin. q̇aʁa and q̇aq̇a-l are early loans from PL (before the assimilation *q̇- > *q:-); in Khin. there also exists a word q̇äk 'burden, load' which could be the genuine reflex of *q̇ŏgV (however, the voiceless -k is not quite clear).

Proto-Yenisseian: *gɨ̄q-
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: back; middle
Ket: kɨ̄1 (Werner 1, 482) 'middle'
Yug: kɨ:hx 'middle'
Kottish: kogar (Ass. М., Сл., Срсл., Кл.) 'back'
Comments: ССЕ 228. External data show that the Assan meaning here is more archaic (in Ket and Yug "middle" < "waist, back"). In any case the suggestion of Ket < Selk. kɨ 'middle' (Helimski КС 242) is hardly justified. Werner 1, 482 gives a reconstruction <*kɨʔǝqǝ>, but for some reason rejects the obvious Ket-Ass. match.
