Notes : The antiquity of the root can be disputed because it exists in almost the same way in Khoe, and the semantics is clearly cultural ('medicinal herb'). However, direct borrowing from a Nama-like dialect does not at all acount for initial č- in North Khoisan. In fact, the direction of the borrowing could have been in reverse - or, just as likely, the two roots may be genetically linked. Cf. also the specific parallelism between Nama sōǀôa- and !Wi *so-ǀõã.
