Meaning: rodent; boar
Notes: An Av.-Lezg. isogloss. The meaning 'boar, pig' of Av. boʎón is clearly secondary (the word has superseded the original name for 'boar' which was *wHarƛ̣_wǝ q.v.), thus the comparison with the PL name for 'rodent' seems justified ('rodent' > 'animal digging earth' > 'boar'). Phonetically the correspondence is exact.
