Notes: Although not widely spread in the EC area (coniferous trees are rare in Daghestan), the root seems quite reliable. We should stress that PWC *maźV is a genuine root, and has nothing to do with the Iranian root *nauča- 'a pine-like cypress' (Pers. nāǯū 'pine-tree', nōǯ 'cypress', Osset. naz/nazu 'fir-tree', näzǝ/näzi 'pine-tree', whence Georg. naʒvi 'fir-tree', Megr. nuʒu id.).
