Proto-North Caucasian: *s_wakV
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: a k. of footwear
Proto-Avaro-Andian: *s:akʷV-r
Proto-Lezghian: *s(:)ʷVkV-j
Notes: A rather dubious cultural term, known only in two EC languages. A reconstruction *c_wākV is not excluded - in which case the root could be possibly compared with PAK *c:ʷaq:á (Ad. cʷāq:a, Kab. vāq:a) 'shoes, footwear' - although the correspondence -k- : -q:- is still quite irregular. See Shagirov 1, 218-219 and Knobloch 1958, 198 (about the Adygh form as the probable source of European: Gr. sykkhos, Lat. soccus etc.).
