Proto-North Caucasian: *rĕwc_wi ( ~ -ĭ-,-ă-,-e)
Meaning: red copper; gold
Notes: The Nakh-WC comparison was proposed in Trubetzkoy 1930, 276; we think that the Darg. and Tab. parallels fit here very well. Alternative comparison, proposed by Rogava 1956,6 (with Av. mesed 'gold' etc., Georg. beč̣edi 'ring'), is unacceptable for phonetic reasons.
