Proto-North Caucasian: *q̇wiɫǝ
Meaning: rock, cliff, stone
Notes: An interesting common NC etymon. To judge from the variety of meanings in modern languages, the original meaning was something like "rock near a precipice" or "a hollow in the mountain slope". Except for the PN length (all other data point rather to a short *ĭ), all correspondences are regular. See Abdokov 1983, 95 (Arch. : Abkh.; all other EC forms listed belong to different roots).
