Proto-North Caucasian: *=ĭχ_V
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: to carry, bear
Proto-Nakh: *=aħ-
Proto-Avaro-Andian: *=iχ-
Proto-Tsezian: *=ɔʁ:- B
Proto-Lak: =u=χ:i-
Proto-Dargwa: *=iχ:- / =uχ:-
Proto-Lezghian: *ʔiχ:e-
Proto-Khinalug: äχ-wi
Notes: Reconstructed for the PEC level. The root is widely represented in two basic Ablaut grades: *=ĭχ_V (or, without class prefixes, *ʔĭχ_V- > *χ_V-) and *=ŭχ_V. We can also reconstruct a PEC derivate *r-[ä̆]χ_V 'load, burden' (reflected in PD *deχ:, PA *riχi-r, see above). (Note that PTs *=ɔʁ:- may represent a contamination of this root and PNC *=Hĕlχ_U q.v., which would explain the meanings 'take away, take off' in Tsezian languages). Cf. also HU: Hurr., Urart. χa- 'to take (away, etc.)', see Diakonoff-Starostin 1986, 61.

Other possible derivates from the same root are PNC *mŏχ_V 'pack, bundle' q.v. (if it is, it contains the rare instrumental prefix *m-), and PEC *χ_[ä]lʔV 'burden, bundle' q.v.
