Comments: The earliest attestation is in Late Zhou (Chuci), where the character is read *prāŋs, MC pạ̈̀iŋ (FQ 北孟), Mand. bèng 'to push a boat (with a boat-hook)'. There is also a Han reading *brāŋ (MC /Jiyun/ bạ̈iŋ (FQ 薄庚), Mand. bēng), used in the combination 榜檠 *brāŋ-graŋ 'a tool for straightening the bow'.
