English meaning : be numerous, long
Russian meaning[s]: 1) спрашивать, разузнавать; 2) извещать, информировать
Shuowen gloss: 致言也.從言先.先亦聲.詩曰.螽斯羽.詵詵兮.
Comments: The word is alternatively written as 駪 or 甡 in Shi. Schüssler (534) considers 莘 (in Shi 221,2) to be the same word, but it clearly means "long", not "numerous"; the character 莘 is also met as a name of state in a rhyme (Shi 236,6) where it clearly rhymes in *-in, not in *-ǝr, and the rhyming is confirmed by xie-sheng.
