Proto-Dravidian : *eṇ- (-nṭ-)
Meaning : eight
Notes : Most often used in conjunction with the suffix *-mVḍ-/*-mVṛ-. The root itself usually stands out as *eṇ-, but there's the case of Tamil eṭṭu, etc., which points to an old *eṇ-ṭ-. Either -ṭ- is an old suffix, or part of the root, contracted in other languages.
