Nilgiri etymology :

\data\drav\ktet
Proto-Nilgiri : *giviṇĭ
Meaning : sling
South Dravidian etymology: South Dravidian etymology
Kota : givṇḍy gal
Toda : tifiṇy
Notes : The word in Toda is obviously the same as in Kota; however, initial t- (most probably < *c-) shows a strange palatalisation. The form could be regarded as a borrowing from some palatalizing language, such as Tamil; however, in Tamil the form kavaṇ is present. Maybe the source of borrowing is an unknown dialect. Otherwise the possibility of contamination is also not excluded (but what with?).
