Proto-Eskimo: *naki-
Meaning: to have problems with urination
Russian meaning: иметь проблемы с мочеиспусканием
Proto-Yupik: *nak(i)-
Proto-Inupik: *naki-
Comments: This verb has a strong connection to *nakacuɣ 'bladder' (especially 'uric bladder' in Asian Yupik). It seems that the root *naki- was actively associated with certain diuretic problems; thereafter more concrete meanings in Asian Yupik appeared as a result of secondary contamination with this root. Only the original meaning 'bladder (neutral)' for *nakacuɣ can explain the semantic shift to 'calf of leg' in affixed forms.
