With an apparent meaning shift. As for a wide-spread etymology (see, for example, [Petraček]), by which nāḳat- 'chamelle' [BK 2 1370] is deduced from *yanāḳat- with the assumed meaning 'the suckling one' and ya- mistaken for a vocative, it is not convincing in view of HBR PB nǝʔāḳā, nāḳā, ʔănāḳā, ARM nāḳǝtā 'she-camel' [Ja 867], with no yā-
Notes: Cf. MSA with metathesis: MHR ḳǝnū [JM 233], JIB ḳéní 'to suckle' [JJ 147] (both also 'to rear', to which see SOQ ḳéne 'soigner, nourrir' [LS 377]). Note also MHR ḥǝnūḳ 'to give a small child drink from a lipped jug' [JM 183], JIB ḥónúḳ 'to feed a baby from a feeding-jug' [JJ 113], where ḥ- may be explained by contamination with ḥnk 'to suck the teat' [ibid.], a denominative from ḥǝnnūk 'gum and palate'.
