\data\sintib\stibet
Proto-Sino-Tibetan: *jǝ̄m
Meaning: spread
Chinese: *lhǝ̄m extend, spread
Lushai: zām creep, spread.
Comments: In OCh. cf. also 潭 *lhǝ̄m deep (a later specialization of the meaning, "extended into depth", possibly under the influence of 深 *ƛhǝm deep, see *ƛŭm): despite Sagart 1995, 204, the word has nothing to do with Tibeto-Burman forms meaning 'pond, pool', see under *dh(r)ǝm 'deep'. [For Chin. cf. alternatively: Burm. hlwamʔ 'to spread', hlwamh 'to cover'.]
