Proto-Sino-Tibetan: *lŭp (~ -ɨ̆-; k-)
Meaning: cover, add a layer
Chinese: *lhǝp to cover; additional robe over another.
Tibetan: klub (p. klubs) to cover (e.g. the body with ornaments).
Kachin: gǝlup3 to roof, cover; grup2 cover (as with a blanket), wrap (as a child in a blanket).
Lepcha: láp to spread as carpet; tă-lap a sort of bamboo-vessel, small bowl or saucer, generally used as a cover for bowl
Comments: Bodo dźokhlop cover, shut, Dimasa phun-khlub wrap around. Ben. 139-140. The root may be of Austric origin: cf. PAA *Cǝlɨp 'cover', *lɛp 'patch, cover', PAN *lu(m)pi, *lupiq 'fold, hem' (or rather *kulub 'roof, ridge, cover').
