Proto-Sino-Tibetan: *χŭ
Meaning: smoke, vapour
Tibetan: (W) hu breath.
Lushai: hu vapour, gas, steam.
Comments: ? Trung ǝ1. Ben. 17. If the original meaning was 'breath', cf. perhaps also OC 休 *xu 'to rest' ( < 'breathe'?). Cf. Austric: PAA *huj 'smoke', PAN *bahu(-an) 'odor, stench'.
