Meaning: a bulbous root
Chinese: *g_rǝ̄s ( ~ -ē(j)s, -ǝ̄js) some k. of Allium.
Burmese: kra the water lily.
Kachin: čiŋkhro1 a sp. of yam; phǝro1 garlic.
Lushai: hra-arsi a sp. of yam.
Comments: Meithei ha; BG: Garo, Dimasa tha. Ben. 106. [In EDSTL the root was split into two: *ra 'bulbous root' and *rɨ̄ 'a k. of garlic'; they are most probably to be united]. The root is also used with the general meaning 'root' in several TB languages, cf. Karen *[rw]i,T, Miju kra, Idu *rV, Miri rɨga, Ao Naga *rV. Cf. Austric: PAA *raw / *ro 'taro', PAN *biRaq / *biRaʔ '(wild) taro'.
