Proto-Sino-Tibetan: *tăŋ(H) (~d-)
Meaning: palm of hand; buttock
Tibetan: mthaŋ the lower part of the body.
Burmese: taŋ buttocks, posterior, LB *taŋ(x).
Kachin: mai2-daŋ2 the buttocks, (H) daŋ.
Lepcha: tŭŋ the cushion of hand, the heel of foot
Comments: Mat. 164. Cf. Motuo-Monpa ga-daŋ 'hand'. It is possible that the word for 'ear' in some TB languages also reflects a compound with this root: cf. Serdukpen khu-thuŋ, Dhimal nha-toŋ, Phom thoŋ, Rengma ńe-tiŋ.
