Комментарий: Cf. also Ag. Bursh. max:, Ag. Fit. mex́ʷ (preserving the old labialisation). The Tsakh. form is cited from Ibragimov 1978, and the dialect is unknown. 4th class in Arch.
Значение:1 wall 2 fortified place 3 hearth 4 boundary, furrow

Рутульский:mas 1

Будухский:mas 2
Комментарий: Obl. base *malcɨ- (cf. Lezg. macu-, Ag. Bursh. maca-, Tsakh. macɨ-); 4th class in Rut., 3d class in Bud. and Tsakh. The basic meaning is "a fortification, a hardly accessible place in mountains", and hence "a shelf on the wall" (this is the meaning in lit. Lezg.; the Khliut dialect has an irregular form: maz, erg. mac:ani 'furrow, boundary').
Комментарий: 3d class in all class-distinguishing languages. The Archi word may be borrowed from Lak., but may also be genuine. Shakhdagh > Khin. malχal 'big mass of snow'.
Комментарий: Cf. Ud. (MSU) miχ. 4th class in Rut. PL *-n- regularly gives Rut. -r- before a lateral (*-r- would have been lost in this position) and disappears in Udi.
Комментарий: 3d class in all class-distinguishing languages. Obl. base *maqIʷä-, cf. Lezg. meʁü- (cf. also Lezg. Khl. mäʁIʷ,mäʁIü-), Tab. maqIu-, Ag. (Bursh.) maqIa-, Tsakh. moqIa- (note that the Tsakh. dir. base moqI itself is secondary, cf. the more archaic Gelm. maqIʷa - directly reflecting the PL form).
Комментарий: Cf. Lezg. erg. maq:uni (Khl. maq:ani). Obl. base *maq:ɨ- (cf. Rut. maʁa-, Tsakh. maʁɨ-). 3d class in Kryz. and Tsakh., but 4th class in Rut.
Комментарий: Udi has a compound, wherein the first part may be compared with Darg. qaIš- in qaIš-č̣im 'span'. Other Lezghian languages have not preserved either part of it.
Комментарий: The Tab. form (cf. also Düb. maq) is irregular: maʁʷ would be expected. The reason is probably a contamination of two originally different roots: *maq:ʷ 'word' and *ma(r)χʷ 'tale, fairy-tale' q.v.
