Comments: In Chech. there exists a parallel form maʕar which is obviously secondary. The obl. base should be reconstructed as *mʡāre- (cf. Chech. mʕēra-, Ing. mʕara-, Bacb. mʕare-). Belongs to the 4th class in the meaning "nail, claw", but to the 6th in the meaning "hook".
Comments: 3d class in Chech., 4th class in Ing. Obl. base *maʔu- (cf. Chech. moʔa-). The Ing. form contains a diminutive suffix (*-Vḳ); the vocalism is irregular (probably a late assimilation *maʔinḳ > *meʔinḳ > miʔing).
Comments: Cf. also Chech. macalla ( = Bacb. macol) 'hunger', Lev., Ved. mecĩ, Cheb. macĩ 'hungry' etc. The pure root *mac- is seen in Chech. mac-dalar, Bacb. mac-dalar 'to become hungry'.
Comments: Cf. also Bacb. mac̣ar-dar ( = Chech. marz-dan) 'to sweeten'; Chech. Cheb. marzĩ, Shar. merʒĩ etc. 'sweet'. A derivate of the same stem is PN *moc̣ (obl. base *mac̣i-) 'honey': Chech. moz (meza-), Ing. moz / moʒ (mezo), Bacb. moc̣ (mac̣i-) (3d class in all languages). A regular reflex of the old PEC derivate *hwmĭʒ_ū would be PN *ʡoṭṭ (*ʡaṭṭ), so it is obvious that the nominal stem was rebuilt on the analogy with the adjective 'sweet'.
Comments: Obl. stem *mač̣u-, cf. Chech. moža- (Usl. mažu-), Ing. možo (hence, with vowel levelling, the direct base vocalism: mož). 4th class in all languages. Cf. also Chech. Lev., Pharch. maž, Khild. moǯ, Cheb. mač̣, Ing. (Imnaishvili) mwoč:.
Comments: Initial *mɦ- also possible. In Chech. the word has two obl. stems: maʁara- 'row' (cf. Ing. muʁaro) and moʁana- 'line'; the latter is obviously secondary.
Comments: 4th class in Chech., but 3d class in Ing. The vowel's shortness is indicated by Chech. -e- (a long *-ā- in this position would yield -ä-). In Chech. there occurred a metathesis (*maʁVlṭ > *malʁVṭ with a subsequent change -l- > -r-).
Comments: Obl. base *marʎi- (cf. Chech. mera-, Ing. mera-ž - originally a suffixed form; cf. also Bacb. majrʎa < *marʎi-ja "face"). 6th class in chech, Bacb., but 4th class in Ing. Cf. also Shar., Itumk. marhŏ "nose".
