Proto-Yenisseian: *tVn-
Meaning: to lie, sleep
Ket: dītōgǝt (Донн.) "to sleep", imper. 2 p. sg. ta_llūt; mod. d-t-a-di-tn 'I shall go to bed',di-di-tn 'I shall hide'
Kottish: i-tēn-aŋ 'I am lying down'; d́ātaŋ "to lie", praet. alātaŋ, imp. alat; (Бол.) alatan "I sleep", (М., Сл., Срсл., Кл.) aláten 'to sleep', Ass. (Сл., М., Срсл., Кл.) alaten id., (Кл.) altun id., (Ф.) alaten "I sleep", Koib. (Ф.) alaten id.
Comments: ССЕ 291. Numerous Kottish, Assan and Koibal recordings actually reflect the praet. form in the perfect meaning ("I have lied down" = "I sleep"). Cf. also *ʔaq-ɔt- 'sleep' (which can have the same stem in the second part). On this root see G. Starostin... Werner 2, 228 attempts to change the reconstruction to <*den>, based on the Yug form -de; this is, however, a quite separate root, see *de.
Proto-Yenisseian: *tVp
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: iron; tongs
Ket: atǝp5,6, pl. ata:n3 / ata:3 (more rarely: South. atavǝŋ5, Kur. atapǝŋ5) 'tongs'
Yug: atǝp5,6, pl. atafɨn5 / atafɨŋ5 'tongs'
Kottish: išthip, pl. -aŋ "iron nail; tongs", thip, pl. -aŋ "iron"; (Бол.) tip "iron"; Ass. tip (М., Сл.) "iron"
Arin: tep (Стр.) "iron"; tēp (М., Сл.) id.; (Лоск.) tep id.
Comments: ССЕ 292. Ket and Yug reflect a compound *ʔaχV-tVp (with *ʔeχV 'iron'); for Kott. iš- see *ʔiʔs 'peg'. Werner 2, 317 *thep.
Proto-Yenisseian: *tVPV
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: to hear
Kottish: atpi 'hearing, information'; atpoa 'it is heard'; atpifunākŋ 'to be silent' ("be without information")
Arin: ban-tibi-tälim (Лоск.) 'I smell'
Comments: ССЕ 292. The Kott.-Arin comparison is possible if the Arin form is correctly segmented (which is not quite secure); Werner 1, 78 also doubts it - for his analysis which is hardly preferable see *ʔeq-. The root may be related to *-tV 'be heard, resound' q.v.
Proto-Yenisseian: *tVpVĺ- (~-b-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: spleen
Kottish: tebolä (Бол.)
Arin: tabre (Лоск.)
Comments: ССЕ 292. See also in the lemma *seŋ 'liver'. Werner 2, 230.
Proto-Yenisseian: *tVr
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: to shake
Kottish: ši-tar 'shaking', ba-tharaŋ, praet. bala-tharaŋ, imp. al-thar 'to shake'
Comments: ССЕ 292. Werner 2, 441 <*thaʎ->.
Proto-Yenisseian: *tVx-
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: storm
Ket: tugil (М., Сл., Срсл., Кл.), túgul-bej (Кл.)
Yug: túgul-d...dɛ 'verwehen' (Werner 2, 284)
Kottish: tī-par 'fog' (см. *pVr); Ass. taj-bej (М., Сл., Кл.,), tai-bii (Срсл.)
Pumpokol: ? čibaj (Сл., Кл.), čiebaj (Срсл.)
Comments: ССЕ 293. The vowel -a- in Assan is not clear. A compound with *bej 'wind' (q.v.) is present in Ket and Assan; a similar compound may be attested in Pumpokol, but deriving Pump. či- from *tVx- is somewhat dubious. Werner 2, 268, 284 (without reconstructions).
Proto-Yenisseian: *tV-xur1
Meaning: spring, source
Ket: tajlop5, pl. tajla:3
Yug: to:r3 / tɔ:hr4, pl. tourɨŋ3 "brook"
Kottish: aléten (Ass.) (М., Сл., Кл.) "well"
Arin: atékul (М., Сл., Кл.) "spring, source"
Pumpokol: tájal (Сл.) "spring, source"
Comments: ССЕ 293. All languages reflect a compound of an etymologically unclear component *tV- with PY *xur1 'water' (q. v.).; in Assan the form is additionally metathesized (aleten < *atelen < *ate-ul-en). Perhaps we are dealing with a compound *tu-xur1 (with vocalic dissimilations) "raw water"? Werner (2, 232) doubts the comparison, but does not propose any better: it is hardly possible to separate Ket tajlop and Yug to:r, although the former could have been modified under the influence of taʔj 'cold'.
Proto-Yenisseian: *tVχa (~-G-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: cow
Kottish: thigä, thiʔä, pl. thigän, thikŋ; Ass. tɨg (М., Сл., Кл.), tɨk (Кл.)
Arin: t́ugal (М., Сл., Кл.) "calf"; tügal (Лоск.) id.; t́ūja (М., Сл., Кл.) "cow"
Comments: ССЕ 293. Werner 2, 317 <*thigǝ>.
Proto-Yenisseian: *t-VχV
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: to ask
Ket: ti-v-íj (t...ij)
Yug: ti-bet́, t...iʔ
Kottish: thax, thag 'asking', thōjaŋ 'I ask', praet. thōlajaŋ
Comments: Werner 2, 266 <*th-eg / *eg>.
Proto-Yenisseian: *tVχV (~-G-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: boat, vessel; to scoop
Ket: ti:, pl. ti:n 'delved boat'; ti:j / tīj 'to scoop'
Yug: ti: 'delved boat'; ti:j / tīj 'to scoop'
Kottish: ul-tḗj (Ass.) (Сл.) , (Кл.) uttḗj "vessel (made of birch bartk or skin)"
Arin: taj (Лоск.) "boat"; cf. also (М., Кл.) kultḗj "vessel (made of birch bartk or skin)"
Pumpokol: tɨg "boat" (Сл.), "vessel" (Сл., Срсл., Кл.)
Comments: ССЕ 293. Arin and Assan have a compound with *xur1 'water'. Werner 2, 268 <*thigǝ>.
Proto-Yenisseian: *ulča- ( ~ x-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: testicles
Ket: ɔ́ĺtǝŋ, (Castr.) uĺtaŋ
Yug: ult́aŋ (Castr.)
Comments: Werner 2, 38, 332. The analysis ɔʔĺ 'hull' + -t- (gen.) + ēŋ 'eggs' (2, 38) is completely folk-etymological because of the attested Yug form with -t́-.
Proto-Yenisseian: *wǝ-
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: not, there is not
Ket: bъ̄ń / bъń "not, there is not"; bъńśeŋ1, bъtśeŋ1, bъńčǝŋ1 "there is not"
Yug: bъń "not, there is not"; bъ̄śɛ "there is not"
Kottish: bō "prohibitive particle"; mon, *mōn "not"; Ass. (М., Сл.) mon "not"
Arin: bon (Кл.) "there is not", (М., Сл.) "not"
Pumpokol: a-mút, amut (Сл.) "not"
Comments: ССЕ 294. Pump. bejsem "there is not" (Кл.) is most probably a Yug form. The pure stem *wǝ is reflected only in Kott. bō; other forms reflect a derived *wǝ-n. Werner 1, 157 <*bǝ / *bǝn>.
Proto-Yenisseian: *wi- / *we-
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: interrogative pronoun
Ket: biśɛ́ŋ / biśáŋ ( < biśa:ŋ3) 'where', bi-śśe 'who' (masc.), bɛ-śa 'who' (fem.), bi-ĺa5,6 'how', bi-ĺɛ́ś / biĺáś '(towards) where', (Кастр.) bilejäm 'which', biĺíl / bińíĺ 'whence'
Yug: biśa:ŋ3 'where', bɛ-tta5, bi-re5,6 / birɛ́j 'how', bi-rɛ́s / birɛ:hs4 '(towards) where', birɨ:r3 'whence'; (Кастр.) biraŋsa 'which'
Kottish: bi-li 'where', bilthuŋ '(towards) where', bilčaŋ 'whence', bi-ĺäŋ 'which', balomāś, *bilomaś, g. bilomāća, pl. balomāćan "which, what for"; bilituiśe "which"; bilipei, *bilipēi "how much"
Pumpokol: bižǵ (Срсл.) "how" [?]
Comments: ССЕ 294. Werner 1, 124, 125 (without reconstruction; Kott. pīl 'far' of course has nothing to do with this root, see *bīr1).
Proto-Yenisseian: *win
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: oneself
Ket: bin
Yug: bin
Kottish: mintu "himself"; minta "herself"; pl. mintiäŋ
Comments: ССЕ 294. Werner 1, 129 <*bin>.
Proto-Yenisseian: *wV
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: he, she
Ket: bū / bu, pl. būŋ
Yug: bu, pl. be:ŋ / bue:ŋ3
Kottish: bari (Ass.) (М., Сл., Кл.) "he"
Arin: au (М., Сл.) "he"
Comments: ССЕ 294. Ar. bu (Кл.) "he", bujeg (Срсл., Кл.) "they" are probably recordings of Yug forms. Werner 1, 146 <*bu>.
Proto-Yenisseian: *wVs
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: blue
Kottish: urek-bas (Ass.) (Кл.) 'blue'
Arin: bis (М., Кл.) "голубой", (Сл.) "синий"
Comments: ССЕ 294. For the first part of the Assan compound cf. Kott. oreäk, ureäk 'green'. Werner (1, 131) suggests that the Ass. form means "like green", which is quite dubious if we take into consideration the independent Arin form bis. Note also Kott. bosarak 'fox-colored' - which may be actually a compound similar to urek-bas, but with a different order of components.
Proto-Yenisseian: *wVχ-
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: to pull
Ket: bagdeŋ5, d-ib-bʌk
Kottish: ši-pu 'pulling'; ba-puj-aŋ, praet. bui-puj-aŋ, pass. bujā-pui
Comments: ССЕ 295. The comparison is suggested by K. Reshetnikov. Initial *w- may be a historical prefix, cf. the Yug paradigm with an alternation of -b- and -g- (dí-b-bʌk, praet. di-bī-r-gʌk). Werner 1, 98 <*b-ǝk / *g-ǝk>.
Proto-Yenisseian: *wV̄ǯ- (~*b-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: to do, make
Ket: bɛ:ŕi4 (Kur.); Bak., Sur. bɛ:dǝ4; South. bɛŕ4
Yug: bɛ:ht́
Kottish: ba-paj-aŋ
Arin: ša-pi-te (Лоск.) "I make"
Comments: ССЕ 295. Werner 1, 115 <*bɛʔǝd'ǝ>.
Proto-Yenisseian: *xaʔq
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: trees
Ket: aʔq
Yug: aʔx, aʔq; axat5 'to procure firewood'
Kottish: āx (ag), pl. āgan 'wood'; (Бол.) ak 'wood, firewood'
Arin: oo (Лоск.) 'firewood'
Pumpokol: hóxon (Сл., Срсл., Кл.) "tree", (Сл.) "wood"
Comments: ССЕ 295. The Pump. form ak 'wood' (Срсл., Кл.) is in reality Yug. Werner 2, 50 *(x)aʔq, 1, 86 <*aʔq>.
Proto-Yenisseian: *xaŋ
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: nose
Ket: áŋgɔn 'nose, nostrils' (Werner 1, 45)
Kottish: aŋ, *āŋ, g. āŋi(e), pl. āŋán; Ass. aŋ (М., Сл., Срсл., Кл.)
Pumpokol: haŋ (Сл., Срсл., Кл.)
Comments: ССЕ 295. Werner 1, 39, 45.
