Proto-Yenisseian: *boŋ-
Meaning: herring
Ket: bɔŋtuɣ6, pl. bɔŋtu:ń3
Comments: The second part probably contains -tiɣ (PY *cīk-) 'fish' (with vocalic assimilation). Like many other fish names the stem is probably of Altaic origin (cf. PA *mVńVk`V 'a k. of fish', whence Yak. majaɣas 'сиг', Mong. munig 'уклейка' etc.).
