Herb is actually one of my favorite drummers. Hes got a fantastic, precise tone, and is very creative. His drumming on "Southbound Pachyderm" and "Winonas Big Brown Beaver" off of Punchbowl is phenomenal. Not to mention the big hit "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver" off of Sailing.

Speaking of Metallica, I'm not actually sure if this is true or not but Les Claypool, after Burtons death, tried out for their new bassist. But instead they opted for Jason Newsted. This leaves me to ponder their reasoning. Because (imo) Les walks all over Jason.
