Hi George, just read your review of The Swing and all I want to say is how could you have failed to make any mention of "Johnson's Aeroplane"? Am I the only person who loves that song?

From the first second I heard "What You Need" come out of the radio, I was grabbed. I even called the DJ up to ask who the group was, the only time I've ever done that. That funky guitar riff is an incredible hook, and Hutchence's insistent vocal is very sexy. The rest of the album doesn't live up to that grata opening, but it is very good. The key to INXS, starting here, is that they were much more guitar centered than other 80's pop bands. The synths ("Three Sisters," to be sure) and the Linn drum machines are there, but always used at the service of the melodies. The band were good musicians, and then add interesting lyrics and Hutchence's assertive, masculine vocals, and you've got the first of a trio of great albums from INXS.
